Its enormous versatility in cultivation forms—from shrubby specimens to trained canopies, bonsais, or pom-pom sculptural pieces—makes it one of the most sought-after ornamental trees in Mediterranean landscaping, both as a singular feature and in groupings.

Once established, it tolerates drought, heat, and poor, calcareous soils very well, provided it has good drainage.
