Jasminum azoricum

Features and care

Jasminum azoricum, known as the Azores jasmine, is a fast-growing evergreen climber, valued for its elegant foliage and long, fragrant flowering. It can be trained over trellises, pillars and walls, or kept as an arching shrub in coastal gardens and warm spaces.

It develops flexible stems and glossy, deep green compound leaves. Its white, star-shaped, fragrant flowers are grouped in small clusters that stand out against the foliage. Flowering begins in early summer and can continue into autumn; in especially mild climates, sporadic flowers may appear outside that period.

It needs full sun or very bright part shade and cool, fertile, well-drained soil. It should be watered regularly during warm weather, letting the soil aerate between waterings. It reaches 3 to 5 m with support and falls within USDA zones 9b–11. It is sensitive to frost and performs best in warm, sheltered positions without water build-up around the roots.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
