Rosa banksiae

Features and care

Rosa banksiae, known as Lady Banks’ rose, is an evergreen or semi-evergreen climbing rose with long, arching, fast-growing canes. It is valued for its massive flowering and is often used to cover pergolas, walls, fences and large structures in sunny, temperate-climate gardens.

It develops glossy compound leaves made up of small, serrated leaflets. Its flowers, single or double depending on the variety, appear in clusters and can be white or yellow, with a light fragrance. Flowering is concentrated in spring, when clusters spread along the canes; in certain climates it extends into early summer.

It tolerates full sun or part shade, although sunny exposure favours more abundant flowering. It prefers cool, fertile, well-drained soil, with regular watering in warm weather and pauses that allow the soil to aerate. With support it reaches 6 to 12 m. It adapts to USDA zones 7–10 and tolerates moderate cold; how evergreen it stays depends on winter temperatures and exposure.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
