Agave desmettiana
Features and care
Agave desmettiana, known as Desmett’s agave, is a succulent plant native to Mexico that stands out for its architectural form and rosette of long, fleshy, arching leaves, ranging in color from deep green to bluish-green. Its nearly smooth margins and compact shape make it a highly decorative choice for Mediterranean gardens, rockeries, low-maintenance spaces, and container gardening.
Its growth rate is moderate, reaching a height of 60 to 90 cm and a width of up to 1.20 m. It thrives in full sun or bright partial shade, especially in areas with very hot summers. Once established, it tolerates drought and requires light, sandy, or stony soils with excellent drainage to prevent rot caused by excess moisture.
Watering should be infrequent, allowing the substrate to dry out between waterings and reducing it to a minimum during the colder months. It is a hardy, low-maintenance species, ideal for adding texture, volume, and a contemporary character to compositions with other xerophytic species.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
