Tamarix tetandra

Features and care

Tamarix tetandra, now identified as Tamarix tetrandra and known as the four-stamen tamarisk, is a deciduous shrub with a flexible habit. Its arching branches and feathery flower plumes provide a light texture, used in coastal compositions and open-looking shrub groups.

The dark branches, almost black in places, contrast with tiny, scale-like green leaves. In late spring, large clusters of pale pink flowers appear and wrap around the twigs. After that period, the foliage keeps a fine, loose appearance during the growing phase.

It is grown in full sun and reaches 3 to 6 m with fast growth. It tolerates dry to moist soil and salinity, with moderate watering through deep, spaced-out waterings. It accepts high humidity without needing permanently saturated soil. Its USDA 6–9 hardiness allows it to withstand winter frosts, and an open, bright position brings out its arching form.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
