Features and care
Eucalyptus gunnii, known as the cider gum, is a very fast-growing evergreen tree with aromatic foliage. It is valued for the blue-grey tone of its leaves and is used as a specimen, a tall screen or a green backdrop in gardens of sufficient size.
In the juvenile stage the leaves are small and rounded; as it matures they become longer and lanceolate. The bark also adds visual interest. The cream or white flowers are grouped in small umbels, although they may be scarce in cultivation and are not the main attraction of young specimens.
It needs good sunlight and can reach 15 to 25 m. It needs cool to moist, well-drained soil and high watering to keep moisture even in warm periods. Its adaptation to humid conditions is very high. Within USDA zones 7–10 it shows greater cold resistance than other warm-climate eucalyptus, although establishment still calls for attention to the available water.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
