Fraxinus angustifolia

Features and care

Fraxinus angustifolia, known as the narrow-leaved ash, is a fast-growing deciduous tree with a spreading crown. Its light foliage and its ability to provide shade allow it to be used in parks, large gardens and plantings linked to landscapes with water available.

The leaves are made up of narrow, lanceolate, dark green leaflets that may turn yellow in autumn. The grey bark becomes progressively fissured with age. Its small greenish flowers appear in spring and are followed by winged samaras, visible in clusters as they ripen.

It needs full sun and reaches 15 to 25 m. The ground should be kept cool to moist, and it tolerates brief flooding. It needs very high watering through frequent, deep applications, without prolonging the lack of oxygen at the roots. It adapts to high humidity and withstands winter cold within USDA 6–9. A water reserve in the soil favours steady growth during establishment.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
