Features and care
The Prunus persica, commonly known as the peach tree, is a deciduous fruit tree with an open habit and medium growth rate. It can reach between 3 and 5 meters in height, although its final size depends on the variety, rootstock, and pruning. It develops long, narrow, and serrated leaves of a deep green color, and a canopy that should be kept open to allow for light penetration and ventilation. It is a suitable species for orchards and gardens in temperate, warm, and dry climates, where it can combine ornamental value with fruit production.
In late winter or early spring, it produces pink blossoms that appear before the leaves have fully emerged. Later, it develops peaches with velvety skin, juicy flesh, and a central pit; their color, size, and ripening date depend on the variety. Most cultivars are self-fertile, although the presence of bees improves fruit set and the consistency of the harvest. Because it flowers early, it is essential to avoid low-lying areas or those exposed to late frosts, which can significantly reduce the annual yield.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
