Pyrus pyrifolia

Features and care

The Pyrus pyrifolia, known as the Asian pear or nashi pear, is a deciduous fruit tree with a rounded shape and medium growth rate. It can reach between 4 and 8 meters in height, although it remains more compact when grafted onto less vigorous rootstocks. Its leaves are oval, green, and have serrated edges, forming a dense crown that is attractive during the growing season. It is a suitable species for orchards and fruit gardens in temperate climates, where it provides spring blossoms and crisp fruit.

During spring, it produces clusters of fragrant and highly decorative white flowers, which later give way to round, apple-like fruits. Asian pears have yellow, green, tan, or brown skin, depending on the variety, and firm, juicy, and refreshing white flesh. Most cultivars require a compatible pollinator that blooms at the same time; furthermore, some Chinese and Japanese varieties have different flowering schedules, so it is advisable to select suitable combinations. Thinning the fruit helps prevent overloading the branches and promotes uniform size.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
