Features and care
Ginkgo biloba, known as ginkgo or the maidenhair tree, is a slow-growing deciduous tree. It is valued for the uniqueness of its leaves and its yellow autumn colour, and is used as a specimen, a shade tree and a street tree.
The crown is usually pyramidal when young and opens out with age. Its leaves are fan-shaped, with distinctive veining and an edge sometimes split into two lobes. It does not produce true flowers: it develops separate reproductive structures on male and female trees, and the latter can form seeds with a fleshy coat.
In a sunny position it reaches 15 to 25 m. It needs cool to moist, well-drained soil, with high watering that keeps moisture even during growth. Its tolerance to humid air is high and it withstands the frosts of USDA zones 3–8. A regular water supply should be combined with good root aeration, without permanent saturation.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
