Ampelopsis quinquefolia

Features and care

Ampelopsis quinquefolia, commonly known as Virginia creeper or five-leaf vine, is a fast-growing, deciduous climbing plant native to North America. It can reach several meters in length, developing flexible stems that cling to walls, pergolas, fences, and other structures using tendrils equipped with small adhesive discs. Its leaves are compound, typically composed of five deep green leaflets, which turn spectacular shades of red and purple in autumn before falling. It is a highly valued ornamental plant due to its vigor, ground cover, and attractive seasonal color changes.

During the summer, it produces small, greenish flowers clustered in inconspicuous inflorescences, which later give rise to small, rounded, dark blue or purplish fruits. Its dense foliage allows it to quickly cover vertical surfaces, creating masses of vegetation with great decorative value. It is a hardy and adaptable species, capable of thriving in different soil types and exposure conditions, although it grows best with ample light and moisture.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing vigorous growth, uniform coverage and balanced development from the first years of planting.
