Features and care
Bignonia ricasoleana, now identified as Podranea ricasoliana and commonly known as the pink trumpet vine, is a very vigorous woody climber. Its ornamental interest lies in its large clusters of pink flowers, and it is usually trained over sturdy supports, pergolas, walls or large fences where its spread can be controlled.
It forms long stems without tendrils, which need guiding, and compound leaves made up of oval, serrated leaflets. The flowers are bell-shaped, fragrant and pink to pale lilac, with darker veining, and appear in terminal panicles. Flowering mainly occurs during summer.
It prefers full sun, although it tolerates light part shade, and cool, fertile, well-drained soil. It needs regular watering during warm weather, letting the soil aerate between waterings. With support it can reach 5 to 10 m and grows very fast. Its hardiness corresponds to USDA zones 9b–11, so it needs a warm site sheltered from frost.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
