Jasminum polyanthum

Features and care

Jasminum polyanthum, known as pink jasmine, is a very fast-growing evergreen or semi-evergreen climber. It is valued for the intensity of its scent and its abundant flowering, and can cover fences, walls, arches and light structures in mild-climate gardens.

It develops twining stems and compound leaves made up of five to seven leaflets, dark green above and paler beneath. The pink buds open into white, star-shaped, fragrant flowers, gathered in numerous clusters. Flowering is concentrated from late winter to early spring.

It tolerates full sun or bright part shade and needs cool-to-moist, well-drained soil with good aeration. Watering should keep moisture even, increasing in heat without saturating the substrate. With support it reaches 4 to 8 m. It is suited to USDA zones 9–11 and is sensitive to frost, so it needs warm, sheltered positions in regions with cold winters.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
