Features and care
The Cydonia oblonga, commonly known as quince, is a small, deciduous fruit tree with a rounded shape and open branching. It typically reaches a height of 4 to 6 meters, although its size can vary depending on the rootstock, variety, and pruning. Its leaves are oval, dark green, and have a soft grayish down on the underside, turning yellow in autumn before falling. It is a suitable species for home gardens, orchards, and as an ornamental tree due to its flowers and aromatic fruit.
In spring, it develops large, solitary, white or slightly pink flowers that appear on the branches before or during the full emergence of the leaves. Later, it produces large, yellow, and very aromatic quinces, which ripen in autumn. Although the fruits are usually too hard and astringent to eat raw, they are highly valued for making jellies, jams, compotes, and preserves. The quince tree is usually self-fertile, so a single tree can bear fruit, although good pollinating insect activity promotes production.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
