Prunus armeniaca

Features and care

The apricot tree (Prunus armeniaca) is a deciduous fruit tree with a rounded shape and medium growth rate. It can reach between 4 and 8 meters in height, forming a spreading crown of open branches with broad, green, serrated leaves that turn yellow before falling in autumn. It is a suitable species for orchards and gardens in temperate to dry climates, where it combines very early flowering with aromatic fruits of great culinary value.

In late winter or early spring, white or pale pink flowers appear, singly or in pairs, before the leaves have fully emerged. After pollination, velvety-skinned apricots develop, ranging in color from yellow to orange and, in many varieties, displaying a reddish blush on the side exposed to the sun. Most varieties are self-fertile, although pollination by insects improves fruit set. Early flowering is particularly vulnerable to late frosts, so choosing a sheltered location is crucial for a successful harvest.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
