Chamaerops humilis: Characteristics and Care
The Chamaerops humilis, commonly known as the European fan palm or Mediterranean dwarf palm, is a shrub-like palm and the only palm species native to Europe. It is notable for its stiff, fan-shaped, grayish-green leaves, forming a dense, multi-trunked clump.
Its compact habit and high hardiness make it a very versatile option for both mass plantings and specimen plants in Mediterranean gardens.
It is highly tolerant of drought, wind, and poor, calcareous soils once established, and is one of the most cold-hardy palms.
