Eremophila nivea

Features and care

Eremophila nivea, known as silky eremophila, is an evergreen shrub native to Australia, distinguished by its intensely silvery foliage. Its branches, narrow leaves, and young shoots are covered in a fine white or grayish down, giving it a soft, luminous texture, ideal for creating contrast in rock gardens, borders, gravel gardens, containers, and low-water Mediterranean arrangements. It forms a compact, rounded clump between 1 and 2 meters tall, with a similar width.

During spring and summer, it produces tubular flowers in shades of lilac, violet, or mauve, which stand out against the silvery foliage and attract pollinating insects. It is a suitable species as a specimen tree, in groups, or in low, informal hedges, especially in dry, sunny, and well-ventilated gardens. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain a compact shape, encourages new growth, and promotes good air circulation among the branches.

Once established, it requires very little water, reducing it almost entirely in winter; it is also advisable to use slow-release, low-phosphorus fertilizers, without over-fertilizing. At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years after planting.
