Amelanchier arborea

Features and care

Amelanchier arborea is a small deciduous tree or shrub valued for its succession of flowers, fruit and autumn colour. Its scale makes it suitable as a garden specimen, in small groups and in mixed borders where a changing point of interest is desired throughout the year.

It develops a rounded crown, often with several stems, and oval leaves with a serrated margin. In spring, white flowers, occasionally tinged pink, gather in light clusters. Small fruits turn from red to dark purple, while the foliage takes on yellow, orange or reddish tones before falling.

It thrives in full sun or part shade on cool-to-moist, well-drained ground. It needs high watering, adjusted to keep moisture even without waterlogging, especially in summer. Its growth is medium and it reaches 5 to 8 m. It shows good tolerance to ambient humidity and withstands frost, within USDA zones 4-9.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
