Features and care
Amelanchier lamarckii, known as Lamarck’s serviceberry, is a tall shrub or small deciduous tree with seasonal interest. The combination of light flowering, dark fruit and autumn foliage allows it to be used as a stand-alone specimen, informal hedge or component of shrub groupings.
Its habit can be upright, rounded or open with several trunks. Oval leaves accompany clusters of white flowers that open in spring from pink buds. As they ripen, small reddish fruits appear and darken, while the leaves turn red and orange in autumn.
It reaches 4 to 7 m with medium growth. It accepts sun and part shade, always with cool-to-moist soil and adequate water outflow. It needs abundant, regular watering, increased during heat without waterlogging. Ambient humidity suits it well and its USDA 4-8 hardiness allows cultivation in areas with winter frost.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
