Features and care
Eucalyptus citriodora, currently identified as Corymbia citriodora and known as the lemon-scented gum, is a slender evergreen tree. Its appeal lies in the scent of its foliage, its pale trunk and the structure of its crown, used in warm-climate landscapes.
The smooth, pale bark contrasts with the narrow, lanceolate, yellowish-green leaves, which give off a lemon scent when handled. The small white flowers are grouped in umbels and play a minor role in young specimens. The persistent foliage keeps its ornamental presence throughout the year.
With very fast growth it can reach 20 to 35 m. It needs a sunny position, cool ground and good drainage, together with moderate, regular watering in warm weather that lets the roots aerate between applications. It adapts to high humidity but depends on mild winters: its USDA 9b–11 hardiness reflects a marked sensitivity to frost. It needs a warm, bright site.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
