Eucalyptus deglupta

Features and care

Eucalyptus deglupta, known as the rainbow eucalyptus, is a tropical evergreen tree whose main attraction is its multicoloured bark. It is reserved for large landscape spaces with a suitable climate, where the trunk can be enjoyed as an ornamental feature all year round.

The bark peels in strips that reveal green tones and, over time, blue, orange or maroon ones. Its leaves range from oval to lanceolate. The white to pale yellow flowers gather in small groups and give rise to discreet capsules, visually secondary to the effect of the trunk.

In full sun it grows very fast and can reach 30 to 60 m. It needs moist, well-drained soil and high watering to keep moisture even without saturation. Its tolerance to humid conditions is very high and it requires stable tropical conditions, within USDA 10b–12. It is not a choice for outdoor sites with frost, and steady temperatures and water supply determine its growth.

At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
