Features and care
Laburnum anagyroides, known as common laburnum or golden chain tree, is a small deciduous tree or large shrub with striking flowers. Its hanging clusters provide a spring accent in ornamental plantings and explain its use as a feature specimen or within small-scale tree groups.
Its habit is upright and relatively open, with green trifoliate leaves. The yellow, fragrant flowers are arranged in long clusters that hang from the branches in spring. After flowering, elongated pods appear and darken as they ripen, while the foliage keeps a light texture.
It grows at a moderate rate to 5–8 m. It accepts sun and part shade in cool, well-drained soil, with moderate, regular watering during the warm months. The breaks between waterings should let the soil take in oxygen. It tolerates high humidity and winter cold within USDA 5–8, so it can be grown in regions with frost without needing a permanently warm climate.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
