Features and care
Moringa oleifera, known as moringa or the drumstick tree, is a very fast-growing tropical tree with a light crown. Its finely divided foliage and open silhouette make it suitable as a source of soft shade or as part of warm-climate plantings with enough room to develop.
It has a trunk with corky bark, spreading branches and compound leaves made up of numerous small leaflets. Its white, fragrant flowers are grouped in panicles. The fruits are long, narrow capsules, green at first and later brown; in tropical conditions flowering can recur without a season as defined as in temperate climates.
It requires full sun, dry to cool soil and excellent drainage. Watering is low, with supplemental water during establishment and droughts, letting the soil dry out partially. It reaches 8 to 12 m and has low tolerance to persistent humid air. Its USDA 10–12 hardiness calls for complete protection from frost and a warm environment that keeps it growing.
At Ornacom we cultivate each specimen directly, guaranteeing a balanced size and abundant flowering from the first years of planting.
